Engineering Philosophy

Every component selected for inclusion in the S30.world Takumi Series begins with the same question:

If we were building our own personal S30-ONE today, would we choose this component?

If the answer is anything other than an undeniable yes, it never becomes part of the Takumi Series.

The NISMO 32010-RRS50 Reinforced 6-Speed Transmission became the first product to meet that standard.

Not simply because it is stronger than the original transmission and not because it carries the NISMO name…but because it delivers the balance of refinement, durability and driving characteristics we needed for the S30-ONE program.

During the development of the S30-ONE drivetrain, we evaluated numerous transmission solutions. Some offered exceptional strength but compromised in refinement while others provided attractive gear ratios but required extensive modifications to the vehicle.

Our objective was different.

We wanted a transmission that felt as though Nissan themselves might have engineered it for the S30, one that preserved the mechanical character of the original car while delivering the precision, durability and refinement expected from a modern grand touring car.

After extensive evaluation, one transmission consistently stood apart:

Engineered in Japan

Selecting the transmission was only part of the project.

Installing it correctly deserved a similar level of engineering development.

Rather than adapting a weld-on bellhousing solution, S30.world partnered with one of Japan’s most respected engineering and prototyping shops that developed an entirely new bellhousing. Every Takumi Series component is developed by this long-standing Japanese engineering partner, whose decades of experience designing high-performance components for Japanese OEMs. It has resulted in a long list of products trusted by enthusiasts and professionals alike. Using S30 and S31 development vehicles, every design is refined through extensive real-world testing on the road before it is evaluated by the S30.world team and approved for use in our own S30.ONE program. Only components that deliver a genuine improvement in performance, reliability and driving enjoyment become part of the Takumi Series.

In Japanese culture, the term “Takumi” refers to a master craftsman. For decades his company has developed prototype components and engineering solutions for Japan’s leading automotive manufacturers. Their engineering philosophy, manufacturing quality and uncompromising attention to detail made them the natural partner for this project.

Why Starting With New Matters

One of the greatest advantages of this package cannot be found on a specification sheet.

Every TS-001 package includes a brand-new genuine NISMO transmission.

The newest original Nissan four-speed transmission is now more than forty years old.

The newest original Nissan five-speed gearbox has also seen decades of service.

Many have been rebuilt. Some more than once.

Even the finest rebuild cannot completely erase decades of wear accumulated by bearings, shafts, synchronizers and gearsets.

Beginning with an entirely new OEM transmission changes the outcome significantly.

The result is quieter operation, smoother shifting and a level of refinement that simply cannot be achieved by starting with worn components.

Driving Experience

The NISMO Reinforced 6-Speed retains everything enthusiasts appreciate about a traditional Nissan manual gearbox while introducing a level of precision expected from a modern performance transmission.

The revised close-ratio gearset delivers stronger acceleration while maintaining effortless motorway cruising.

Unlike many motorsport-derived transmissions, the NISMO gearbox remains remarkably civilized during everyday driving.

Whether crossing mountain passes or simply enjoying a Sunday morning drive, it never feels out of place.

That combination of refinement and performance is precisely why TS-001 became the standard manual transmission for every future S30.world S30-ONE.

Developed for the L-Series

TS-001 has been developed for Nissan L-series powered vehicles, including:

• Nissan Fairlady Z (S30 / S31) – L20 and L24
• Datsun 240Z – L24 (1970-1973)
• Datsun 260Z – L26 (1974)
• Datsun 280Z – L28 (1975-1978)
• Datsun 280ZX – L28E and L28ET (1979-1983)
• Nissan Fairlady 280Z (S130) – L20 ,L28E, and L28ET

The complete conversion has been engineered to provide OEM-level fit, reliability, and long-term serviceability while preserving the character of Nissan’s legendary L-series drivetrain.

Final Drive Ratios

Selecting the correct final drive ratio is equally important.

During the development of the S30-ONE we evaluated numerous combinations of engine specifications, tyre diameters and differential ratios to achieve the driving characteristics we were looking for. But after all it is very personal.

Final Drive Characteristics

3.364:1 Ideal for extreme relaxed long-distance touring with the lowest cruising engine speeds, but dull for spirited driving.

3.545:1 Once rolling, this is a good all-around ratio. While not the best in terms of acceleration, it is focused on comfort and touring.

3.700:1 Noticeably quicker response while remaining highly suitable for long-distance touring.

3.900:1 Sportier character for swift road driving and works great on mountain roads with steep inclines.

4.111:1 Maximum acceleration and responsiveness for competition-inspired applications.

The ideal ratio depends fully on engine specification, tire size and intended vehicle use.

Additional Components Required

To complete the installation the following components are required:

• Custom driveshaft with the correct transmission yoke and length
• Bellhousing gaskets (to be fabricated by the installer)

To accommodate the different transmission mounting configurations used throughout production, S30.world has developed dedicated mounting solutions included in the package:

For S30/S31 the transmission mount can be purchased in the shop.

• Early S30 transmission mounting bracket (for cars fitted with a “A” speed transmission till approximately October 1971)
• Late S30 / S31 transmission mounting bracket (cars with originally a “B” transmission from October 1971 through to the end of S30/S31 chassis production)

For Nissan S130 / 280ZX or other L-Series applications, a custom transmission crossmember must be fabricated by the installer.
